Field Notes

Notes:

Walking our dogs just at dusk, we heard the very end of the owl's call -- the "you all" and then "for you all" of the "who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all?" call. We looked for several minutes without luck and I told our kids how unusual it is to see an owl in the wild, then we headed homeward.

The owl swooped in from behind us and to our right and landed in a tree about thirty feet away, right along the path we were walking. It then moved across and above our location and perched on a branch for several minutes, watching us. After six or seven minutes of "it's so beautiful," etc., it flew away.

Terrible pictures, but it was getting dark and I only had my phone.
