Description:
This species has the distinction of being the smallest of North American Butterflies. That pictured has a wingspan of just less than 1/2 inch. Due to their size, they are difficult to spot, and it is easier to get close to their food source, and await their arrival. They are skittish, and at times difficult to approach and photograph.
Habitat:
This was spotted in Calico Basin, which is in the foothills of the Spring Mountains, NV. I have seen a number of these along the eastern slope of the Spring Mountains...always close to springs and ponds. Calico Basin is fed by Red Spring.
