Description:

The lines or rings on the outside of a clam's shell are growth marks. Inside the hinge can be seen. The foot can be seen in this image. Clams dig in mud or sand with their wedge shaped, "hatchet" foot. Water passes in and out the shell cavity through the tube-like siphons. Many fish, birds, raccoon and some turtles feed on clams.

Habitat:

fresh water ponds and lakes.
