Field Notes

Description:

Gorgeous little gecko with blue body and varying degrees of bright yellow head. Very active during the day, most often seen in the trees. This one in our garden. The females are much duller in colour with less distrinction between body and head.

Habitat:

I have only ever seen them in the trees, but in palm trees, more bushy type of trees, jacaranda .. almost any kind of tree. Have not ever noticed them around buildings or garden equipment or anything like that, even though they are very common in urban areas.

Notes:

Most distressed that these gorgeous creatures are caught by the thousands in the wild in Tanzania and shipped around the world to herpers in little boxes...

Thank you all so much for your great comments, that is so awesome. what an initiation! :) Thanks PN family!
Thank you. That was a Bilimbi tree. It has soft pinnate leaves and these weird little fruit grow out of it everywhere. They are little green fruit that are very bitter but the Tanzanians make a pickle out of them that they absolutely love.
An attractive little creature. The tree trunk looks ineresting too. Great spotting - Congratulations !
Wow.. that is awesome. How cool. He is a very handsome specimen though, not all are as contrasted as that or with such strong yellow. It is one of my favourite shots. Nice that others like him also. :)
Congratulations MudWiggle. Not surprised at all. They are a striking looking species.
