Field Notes

Description:

Golden pheasants are hardy, timid gamebirds in the group of "Ruffed Pheasants". The males have an array of colors, while the females are dull. Golden pheasants are also called "Chinese Pheasants" and are considered a smaller species of pheasant. Males tend to be 90 - 105 centimeters long with slightly smaller females measuring about 60 - 80 centimeters. Although pheasants can fly, they prefer to be on the ground.

Habitat:

Golden pheasants usually live in dense forests and woodlands.

Notes:

The pheasants in these pictures are about one and a half year of age, by the names of Norma and Steve. These pictures were VERY hard to take; Steve and Norma are very timid and, evidently, camera shy.
