Field Notes

Description:

Taller than they are wide; seven pairs of legs; about 8mm long; hop chaotically when disturbed in moist leaf mulch.

Habitat:

Moist leaf mulch and loose soils. This one walked up a stone bird bath on a hot day, had a quick drink, then walked straight back down to the leaf mulch.

Notes:

There are very few crustaceans that made it to dry land, a couple of isopods (they are the slater bugs or pill bugs) and a couple of amphipods like this one.
