Flap necked Chameleon
Chamaeleo dilepis
-5.51945, 38.5375
Field Notes
Description:
Gorgeous little Flap-necked Chameleon. Would have been about 30cm long, mint green and varying pastel shades with dark spots. Tiny spindly 'hands' and very long tapering tail which he held up in the air.
Habitat:
This one was seen leaving a sort of savanah woodland and crossing the road into the outskirts of a village. Semi dry semi wooded area south of Tanga in Tanzania.
Notes:
On our way back to Dar from Tanga we took a side dirt road to see what we could see, and just at the crest of the hill on this red dirt road, this little Chameleon was doing his little dance, tail in the air, legs moving back and forward in their jerky way... I just took these photos from the car, although seemingly slow, he did make quite a fast getaway, and was extremely aware of us.
