Field Notes

Description:

A beautiful black and orange Shield Bug about 1 cm long. The legs and antennae have a metallic blue sheen. This species is one of the Predatory Shield bugs, especially feeding on the larvae of the butterfly family Pieridae. It has been reported from Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama and can probably be found in the countries in between as well. Family Pentatomidae, Subfamily Asopinae.

Habitat:

On a bush along the highway between San Cristobal and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 18.5, 1164 meters.
