Field Notes

Description:

Trap-pits made by antlion larva, once the larva sense a prey coming into the trap, it tosses sand at the preys direction, making the prey loose its grip and tubles down to the center where the antlion grabs hold of it with its big jaws and pulls it under the sand. These trap-pits have a diameter of about 3-4 cm, but the larva is much smaller.

Habitat:

Sandbank, close to city. Farmland.

Notes:

First spotting of antlion trap-pits outside of Scandinavia.
