Field Notes

Description:

It measures 24 cm and weighs 40-62 g. The adult male has dark green color on the forehead with a few red dots. A thin orange line appears above the eyes. The crown, face and neck have a glossy dark green color. The chin and throat are white in color. It has a side band of pale orange color of neck which affects the neck, just above the mantle that is bright green dark. The wings are bright green in color with golden highlights. The wings have distinct white spots on the tracks coverts. The primary and secondary pinions are marked with four rows of regularly arranged closed white patches on the wing. Some small regularly arranged spots of white are found in short tail.

Habitat:

This bird was photographed during a photo safari aboard motorized boat in Rio Mutum situated in North Pantanal flooding area in the state of Mato Grosso - Brazil. It is a species that lives isolated in forests, lowland forests, flooded forests in the Amazon flooded, rivers bordered of riparian forest in the southeast, Brazil's central mangroves and riverine forests.
