Field Notes

Description:

Libellulidae; Neurothemis fluctuans (Fabricius, 1793). "The Red Grasshawk, also known as Common Parasol, and Grasshawk dragonfly, (Neurothemis fluctuans) is a species of dragonfly in the family Libellulidae. It is widespread in many Asian countries." Wikipedia.

Habitat:

Spotted at the roadside where the road goes through a patch of forest, near a stream which passes under the road and runs into a mangrove a short distance away.

Notes:

The place where this Red Grasshawk was spotted has become a hotspot for many species of Dragonflies and Butterflies as well as many other insects. The combination of sunshine near the opening caused by the road, the shady spots at the edge of the forest, and the stream with a small waterfall all seem to create a little haven for wildlife. I always go there when I want to be sure of a new spotting. That is why this area frequently appears in my spotting habitats.
