Field Notes

Description:

The common green forest lizard is a large species of agamid lizards, this one measuring about 40 cm with the tail. But they can grow to be 50-65 cm long. These species inhibit the ability to change their scale-color to match the background of the environment, and males heads turn orange-red during mating season. I noticed the change in one specimen from bright green to brownish-grey took about 5 minutes, but is likely to be more rapid. This specimen did not change its camouflage as it jumped down from a nearby tree, snagged the cockroach and went back up immediatly after.

Habitat:

Urban settlement, backyard, close to small patches of jungle.
