Field Notes

Description:

Large sparrow species. All brown with rust vent and on the crown. When spooked or irritated they raise their crown.

Habitat:

Found in a desert canyon hanging with out with White-crown Sparrows.

yes but not like this. Pretty sure there are no Canyon Towhees in the bay area. These are found in the desert canyons of the southwest.
In the last Christmas bird count at Black Diamond mines,we really looked hard for this bird.Does the California towhee raise it's crest?
