Field Notes

Description:

Our life is like a container which stores our experiences, ..this early morning visitor to my house in Chennai hunted a squirrel that attracted attention ..... The shikra is considered to be the commonest small hawk of dry woodland and savanna in Africa and India...An aggressive hunter, the shikra mainly hunts from a perch, making a short dash through the branches to snatch prey from tree trunks, foliage or the ground

Notes:

The shikra inhabits a variety of wooded habitats, including deciduous closed-canopy woodland, savanna, small plantations of exotic trees, and urban parks and gardens

Guess I should have posted the comment after refreshing my screen!! Glad you figured it out!! ;-)
Ashok, beautiful capture! This is definitely a hawk...is an accipiter...which in your location might be a shikra?
Happy I could help, I really love raptors and this is a beautiful example =)
Beautifully captured, though I believe this is a hawk - either a sparrow hawk or possibly Shikra (Accipiter badius). I am sure there are some raptor experts that could confirm :)
