Field Notes

Description:

Very brightly coloured ladybird, about 8mm to1cm long, black head and body with large red splotches with yellow borders.

Habitat:

Seen in the forest in a walk around the base of the Usumbara Mountains in Tanzania, 1-2 hours from Lushoto. Quite dense forest, and this plant that it was on was very dangerous looking. I could not get closer and then she flew off.

Notes:

Love lady birds, I had not idea there were so many different ones until I tried to find out what this one was. But I have not been able to find anything on this colouration, is this a one off? or some kind of special morph.... or another 'common' ladybird ?
