Field Notes

Description:

Slow rolling motion. Did not observe any breaching. Did not seem shy of boats. Easier to spot than the Ganges River Dolphin. 2 meters or so long. Gray. Blunt rounded head. Small triangular dorsal fin.

Habitat:

Large coastal lagoon on the Bay of Bengal. We saw several near fish trap fences in the lagoon. Fellow on the boat said there were 160 in the lagoon and that dolphins were seen everyday. Small local tourist business to see the dolphins.
