Field Notes

Description:

New World wren sp.

Pacific Wren, recently split from the more widespread Winter Wren, is a common inhabitant of the Pacific Northwest.

Habitat:

Moist sequoia/mixed conifer forest at mid-elevations

Notes:

Fledgling. Was one of three fledglings following a mama Pacific Wren, begging for food, and getting fed occasionally, making a very wren-like squeaky sound with its siblings. Very active, foraging at the bottom of the forest floor where this photo was taken, in a area with leaf litter relatively thick compared to other areas of the habitat.

I have yet to see one of these! If I saw a fledgling, I wouldn't have a clue that it's a wren. Sharp eye!
I love the little "eyebrows!"
