Field Notes

Description:

Mostly light brown passerine with pale throat and blotchy spots on belly. Note its rufous vent and undertail coverts.

Habitat:

Small muddy pond in desert.

Notes:

This bird was found dead. Why was this pretty young bird dead? My answer: irresponsible hunters. I noticed shotgun shells nearby. As as fellow hunter, I know that dove season opened the previous day. My advice to all hunters is that they would know what they're shooting at before they pull the trigger.
