Description:

Looks like a mass of cotton balls with white hairs sticking out of them.

Habitat:

Found on a plastic tarp on the edge of a mixed forest.

Notes:

Is this a mass of moth cocoons?

Whadda heck?! Looks quite alien... (as fungi often do so) My first thought was fungus... And also the second one... Cannot be that these are dead eggs covered (killed?) by fungus? Rather exciting spotting!
