Field Notes

Description:

A small sturdy little bird 12-15cm high. A bright red head (called brown breasted indeed!) characteristic Barbet whiskers, and apparently brown breast and grey to brown body. AND a very sturdy beak.

Habitat:

Not sure, seems to be coastal bush of any kind, east Africa.

Notes:

Another poor little male that expended a lot of energy intimidating the male he could see in the reflecting windows of our house. However it made for a lovely chance to see them close up :)

Wow. That bill must crack some large seeds. Does anyone know its diet?
oh, okay Mark, great thank you, will folllow. Yes, really the window was at risk, he really could tap very hard... and for ages I wondered how long he could keep that up.
Oh btw the habitat should just be for each particular spotting eg. 'Urban back yard'
