Field Notes

Description:

2.3 cm wingspan, greyish brown on the upperside with a large sub-apical ocellus on the forewings. The undersurfaces are a pale buff brown, with fine dark striations. The hindwing has three yellow-ringed black ocelli.

Habitat:

Spotted during a day walk in Bandung, Indonesia, rainforest area in a bamboo leaf. The species is natural of South east Asia (Thailandia, Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Palawan and Philipines).

Ypthima is a genus of butterflies in the Nymphalidae family.
