Field Notes

Description:

Pseudoxya diminuta Walker, 1871. Large congregations of these nymphs are not uncommon in our area. The two most recent occasions on which I have seen very large groups like this were on Nov 10, 2022 and Mar 20, 2022 (the spotting numbers are in Notes below). On looking back over all of my pictures of this species, I noticed that they appear to have a wide range of "host plants".

Habitat:

This group of P. diminuta nymphs was spotted in our backyard on a Red hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) locally known as Gumamela.
