Description:

White, toothed fungus; pproximately 12-13 cm long and 10-12 cm wide; teeth approximately 1.5-2 cm long; exhibiting 5 to 6 large lobes (‘branches’).

Habitat:

Growing on fallen hardwood log up-hill from a lake shore.

Thanks Randy. I'll correct this. My first thought was that it was H. erinaceus but I'd never seen it before and figuring out what constituted a 'branch' was the challenge. Now I know.

Hericium americanum has a branched fruiting body. I would call this H. erinaceus.
