Assassin Bug Nymph
Reduviidae, Hemiptera
22.7733, 100.971
Field Notes
Description:
There is an obvious association between this species of assassin bug and this mix of moulds/lichens/mosses which grows on selected leaves in the deep shadows of the undergrowth. Certainly the assassin is ideally adapted to blend into the patchwork of colours thus enabling the perfect ambush of prey and hide it from potential predators. And presumably the vegetable camouflage benefits from the transfer and movement of spores, etc. Where a clutch of eggs has hatched, each leaf may accommodate a single assassin.
