Nokota Horse
Equus ferus caballus
46.9719, -103.526
Field Notes
Description:
Wild Horses
Habitat:
Grasslands, near open plains and areas of fresh water
Notes:
These horses can be any where. About the time you give up looking, up they pop from over a hill or out of a valley. They are fairly unafraid of humans but will warn people (via body language and snorts) if you get too close. On the road, the male will typically walk in back of the group or herd to protect them, perhaps, from danger of rivals.
