Field Notes

Description:

Tiny Planthopper that at first glance looks like a Lady Beetle/Ladybug, size around 5-6 mm.

Habitat:

Tropical forest

Notes:

2 new species of Issid Planthopper from the Genus Gergithus was officially described earlier this month (09 April 2021), one species from Thailand and another from Borneo. The one from Thailand; Gergithus dayi looks very similar to this Spotting, morphologically but was told/reminded that it is not possible to verify with certainty that it is of the same species through photos unless through close-up inspection of the male genitalia. A similar looking species from China, Gergithus frontilongus was described in 2017.
