Description:

This mushroom was a light brown color on top with a whitish stem. It was about two inches in diameter.

Habitat:

I found this mushroom growing right next to a creek beside a rotting log.

hey, raaly, i'm not so sure. i think i agree with chesterbperry. think it's a deer shield.
This looks more like a deer shield to me, I am fairly confident it is not a Russula spp., as I think raaly meant.

Oh, that's a brown-cap russule! The France people don't eat them, but they are eatable and tasty!!
