Field Notes

Description:

Very small fungus. Hairy outer with a ridged cup. Grayish-white eggs. Emerges egg shaped, tan and textured, then grows to a cup shaped fungus. The cups are covered by a cap, initially. Once the cap opens, the tiny flat, rounded eggs can be seen. When water falls on the cups, the eggs are ejected out to help spread the fungus.

Habitat:

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Growing in mulch within the gardens.
