Fungus

On May 20, 2023, there was some clearing up going on in our backyard, in preparation for the approaching typhoon season. It was decided that we should remove an old concrete slab which had been there for around 30 years. It was originally the flooring of an outbuilding which had been demolished some years ago. So, we had it broken up into manageable pieces and taken away. That exposed a patch of earth (with a few stones) approximately 12 feet by 10 feet. The next day, we went out to take a look and decide what we might plant in this new little space. As we approached and saw all that white stuff, from a distance, I thought that it might be a colony of Funnel Weaver Spiders (we have lots of those here), but as we got closer, it appeared to be some kind of fungus. In some places, it was thin and silky looking, rather like spider silk, but much of it took the form of 4 or 5 inches thick tufts or wads, which looked more like cotton wool. So, I took the first three photos. The following morning, the whole thing had obviously died back (or thinned out) and I took the fourth photo. On the third day, it was all gone, without leaving any trace. It was truly as if it had never been there. All I could think of was fungus. I know there are some very expert fungus enthusiasts in Project Noah. So, I would very much appreciate some help with this one.
