Description:
In my spotting yesterday - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1955303640... I listed the habitats in which I have spotted Argiope luzona over the years. I listed them, starting with the favourite of A. luzona (in my personal opinion) banana plants, then hedges and shrubs, followed by rice crops and finally coconut plants. When I thought about this, after posting my spotting, I wondered if I had not seen many of this species on coconut palms, simply because I might not have been looking for them on these partiicular plants. So, I decided to do a little checking, today. See Notes below.
Habitat:
This Argiope luzona (female) was spotted in our backyard on a coconut palm. It had built its web high up on the leaflets.
Notes:
To try and give some credence to my opinion that coconut palms are probably the least favourite habitat of Argiope luzona in the area where I live, I walked around the farm today and looked at, pretty much, every coconut palm we have (I may have missed one or two). I didn't count the palms, but it is around 50 to 60, scattered here and there. Some in our backyard and others around the edges of the rice fields and a good many in the rice mill backyard. I found one A. luzona, in the photo above. So, including the one I spotted yesterday, the grand total comes to two. I know this is rather poor science, but at least I have convinced myself that the whole idea is not just a figment of my imagination.
