Field Notes

Description:

A female green lacewing spotted just beside the probably freshly laid eggs. The bases of the thin stalks, at the point of attachment to the wall, can be seen still glistening (pic 2)

Habitat:

On wall by garden light.

Notes:

I've always been fascinated by the green lacewing's eggs that are seen everywhere - stuck to walls, window ledges and plants but I have never seen the adult anywhere near the eggs. I was so disappointed that I had probably just missed the egg-laying (in a natural environment) that I understand has been seen by so few !
This is by no means a great spotting but I needed to document it and retain it as a reminder to look more closely the next time I see one of these green lacewings,
The following link talks about the egg-laying process
I believe videos on Youtube can be shared- not sure about private videos. I was just going to acknowledge you for having found a great video to share with others. I truly appreciate our input Tukup- have learnt something amazing ! It's David Attenborough presenting in the video - amazing man.
Not a problem Leuba. Feel free to share with or without an acknowledgement. I'm learning a lot too, and the best way to help is to share with each other where we find new "knowledge."
I forgot you're a Ranger Leuba :-) I'm sure you know what is allowed. Sorry.
Hi Leuba. I wrote up a comment yesterday about the video but don't see it here. I probably hit something wrong and never sent it. Anyway, the video isn't mine, I just found it on YouTube. I can't imagine there is a problem with adding the link to your write-up or reference box, but someone else would have to tell you if that's allowed. I would never have researched it without your post, so thanks again for sharing. What a unique egg-laying process!
Thanks so much Tukup. That is an excellent video. I'll have to be happy with that, surely !. Could I please add the video, acknowledgement to you, to my notes so it's part of the spotting and for everyone to enjoy ? Thanks again.
Excellent video on YouTube - https://youtu.be/0zECnVZyYDI But if you mean to see one live instead of a video, yes, it would be great.
You're welcome Tukup. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see one in action ?
Thanks Leuba. Sharp eyes. Also, the link in your notes was great. I had no idea.
