Lacewing with eggs
Mallada tripunctatus
-37.9003, 145.311
Field Notes
Description:
A female green lacewing spotted just beside the probably freshly laid eggs. The bases of the thin stalks, at the point of attachment to the wall, can be seen still glistening (pic 2)
Habitat:
On wall by garden light.
Notes:
I've always been fascinated by the green lacewing's eggs that are seen everywhere - stuck to walls, window ledges and plants but I have never seen the adult anywhere near the eggs. I was so disappointed that I had probably just missed the egg-laying (in a natural environment) that I understand has been seen by so few !
This is by no means a great spotting but I needed to document it and retain it as a reminder to look more closely the next time I see one of these green lacewings,
The following link talks about the egg-laying process
