Field Notes

Description:

A fruitcose lichen of the same genus commonly called old man's beard. This specimen is much more highly branched than what folks in this area call old man's beard. I found this in leaf litter, not attached to anything; my hunch is that it was attached to a tree and was knocked off, but I don't really know.

Notes:

As with my other lichen spottings, I chose other as the category. If you'd prefer fungus, I'm happy to update it.
