Field Notes

Description:

Mating Pair.
Male: Black with white stripes body with brown strip on wings. Black head with white spot and head feathers that stick up. Small but long black beak.
Female: All brown but the underside has white stripes and the chest has more white on it. The beak bottom has orange on it. The head has fancy feathers that point back.

Habitat:

Canal and flooded cranberry brush that connects to a lake.

Notes:

They had spent about a month in the area before several of them paired off and swam around to find good places to nest. Found them fishing in the area.
