Description:

Large spider with blunt spikes along abdomen, black and yellow stripes. The web has a distinctive zigzag pattern in it.

Habitat:

Savanna/woodland.

Yes, that one looks a lot more similar. I will be sending the pics to a spider expert, so I will get confirmation.

Thanks for the ID! Argiope australis looks possible, but at the moment, I'm not sure about it yet ... the patterns on the underside of the abdomen look slightly different to me: http://www.biodiversityexplorer.org/arachnids/spiders/araneidae/argiope_australis.htm I think I'll keep this as Argiope sp. until I can find out more!
