Field Notes

Description:

A large bird in the cuckoo family. It is largely terrestrial, but has the ability to fly. Note the iridescence in the tail feathers.

Habitat:

Small muddy pond in desert

Notes:

This bird had been shot and killed by ignorant hunters. I am tired of people who give responsible hunters a bad name by their foolish actions. However sad it was to see this magnificent bird dead, it was interesting to get some close up photos. This bird was found in close proximity to the Curve-billed Thrasher that I posted earlier.
