Field Notes

Description:

Adults are dark gray to black with red eyes and shoulders. They are (0.37–0.53 in) long.

Habitat:

Spotted on low vegetation near a wetland.

Notes:

It feeds on seeds within the soapberry plant family, Sapindaceae, and is known to rapidly adapt to feeding on particular hosts.
