Field Notes

Description:

This medium sized box turtle (4-6 inches) has a uniformly dark olive green carapace and a tan or flesh colored plastron. It has only 3 toes on it's hind feet, differentiating it from the Eastern box turtle, unless it is a 3-toed x Eastern hybrid, which occurs, in which case I have no idea how to tell.

Habitat:

I found this female box turtle soaking in a small creek along the edge of small town in SE Texas.

Notes:

Texas isn't my normal stomping grounds so I was happy to find this gem. After all the pictures she was returned to her soaking spot.
