Field Notes

Description:

Tiny bird, looks like a small feathery lack-and-white-and-rust-coloured ball - very roundish with that long tail. Total length about 12 cm, two-thirds of that length is tail. Here, in small group, seven of them hunting in these trees - they were easy to spot since there is no leaves...

Habitat:

Edges of broad leaved forest on slopes of Jura mountain range, totally covered in snow at the time.

Notes:

These are residents in our area, and are relatively easy to spot in forests at any time of the year - they are however a nightmare to photograph in summer time, using the canopy to pay hide-and-seek with photographer...
