Field Notes
Notes:
Barnacle Geese are rare North American visitors, with breeding populations in Greenland and other places in the north Atlantic Arctic. Wintering grounds are mostly Scotland, Ireland and the Hebrides. This one showed up yesterday at Maple Farm Sanctuary in Mendon. It was with the flock of wild Canada Geese that come in to feed on cracked corn the farmer puts out. The viewing was far better than I had expected, and at times I actually had to back up to get the entire bird in the picture frame.
