Field Notes

Description:

Euroleon nostras is an antlion found over most of Europe. Adults may reach up to 30 mm long, with a wingspan of 70 mm.

Habitat:

Larvae require dry sandy soil, close to vertical sandy ledges that help adults emerge. The adults need tall, isolated Scots pine trees nearby, where mating takes place

Notes:

This little guy was hiding between some potted plants and the wall. I inadvertently startled him so he flew away. Managed to catch and convince him to pose.
