Field Notes

Habitat:

Large almost 1foot wide web just above ground (a few inches), the funnel web entrance with owner inside. This is our dominant large ground predatory spider. We are next to a stream and in an oak hemlock wooded area. They are especially active in the evening when you can come across them running along the ground, foraging i presume. We have no ticks or other "nuisance species". Human disruption of ecosystems, oversimplifying them creates the over-dominance of nuisance species. Re-wilding returns the complex balance of nature which makes for a beautiful landscape THAT IS ALIVE (inlike urban zombie-lawnscapes).

Species ID Suggestions

Grass spider

Agelenopsis

Comments (1)

This is not Rabidosa, nor is it a wolf spider, as the only Lycosid genus that spins funnel webs is Sosippus. This is a true funnel weaver in the Agelenidae family. The genus is most likely Agelenopsis. See the ID suggestion for more info, and please update the spotting info.
