Field Notes

Description:

Bee sleeping on some dry grass.

Habitat:

Open habitat. Grasses, wildflowers, scattered pines and aspens. Elevation 8,373 feet.

Notes:

The males of various solitary bees sleep by hanging on to vegetation with their mandibles. Sometimes in groups. Poor pics but this behavior always fascinates me.
