Field Notes

Description:

A small songbird with grey-brown streaky upper parts and pale buff underparts. Sexes are alike. This migratory bird is usually found foraging on the ground.

Habitat:

Spotted at the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge. They breed in alpine areas, near seeps, streams, lakes, or wet meadows.

Notes:

During summer, they eat mostly invertebrates. During fall and winter, their diet is mostly grass and weed seeds, which can make up half their diet during these seasons.
