Description:
A very tiny bright orange fly with a pointed beak, probably for feeding on nectar. The end of the abdomen is curled up like a little scorpion (male?). The antennae are beaded and the wing venation is greatly reduced to only 2 or 3 veins. The wings appear hairy due to the presence of microtrichia. It is about 3mm in body length. Family Cecidomyiidae, Gall Midges.
Habitat:
Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
