Description:

The American goldfinch is the state bird for New Jersey, Iowa, and Washington. This spotting is the female. She is dull yellow beneath and olive above. Has dark, blackish wings with pale wing bars. Winter birds are drab, unstreaked brown, with blackish wings and two pale wing bars. During the winter months, males can be hard to tell from females.

Habitat:

Goldfinches are usually easy to find throughout much of North America, except in deep forests. This female American goldfinch was spotted in a tree at Kinder Farm Park in Millersville, Maryland
