Field Notes

Habitat:

mountainous area, sub tropical climate and thick trees

Notes:

Cicada exuviae (remains of an exoskeleton) are found all around Taiwan every year. Our summers are usually filled with cicadas singing so loud that it is almost deafening at times.
While the exuviae are easy to find, shooting the adults can be a difficult task, as they are often much higher up in the trees. As fall/autumn approaches their song fades as quickly as it began, and one will find many laying here and their covered with ants, who make quick meals of these truly stunning creatures.
