Field Notes

Description:

It is a small butterfly yhat has grey wings with a black stripe and some orange on the inside and underside. It is a interesting species that has a way to get away from predators. The defensive mechanism is the tiny tails that has at the ends of the hindwings. When the butterrfly feels disturbed it shakes those tails because the preadetor will think it is the antenna and bit for it but really gets scales in the mouth and the butterfly escapes. This one was lucky that i was not a bird.

Habitat:

They live mainly in urban gardens and grasslands with dandelion flowers which they like.

Notes:

It was a male butterfly that has a tear in it's wing.
