Field Notes

Description:

Crambidae; Pyraustinae; Euclasta sp. This moth has extremely long legs and it rests with its wings closed. This results in a very peculiar posture, which, once you know it, makes this type of moth recognizable even some distance away. I have not come across much information about moths of this genus, but the two that I have seen (this and another one) look very similar in size, style and posture. Even the colours (a combination of white, light brown and dark brown with a black spot on each front wing) are very similar. I don't know how many Euclasta spp. are present in Philippines. I have only spotted two and I think https://philepidoptera.wixite.com/moths have pictures of the same spp.

Habitat:

This Crambid Snout Moth was spotted in a tangle of foliage and grasses in a rice field just before plowing for the planting season.

Notes:

As mentioned above, I have taken some pictures of another Euclasta sp. and will upload that one next.
