Field Notes

Description:

Small lovebird, 5-8cm high . Dark green back, light green belly, yellow chest, yellow at the back of the neck, Black face. Bright orange very short beak, silver ring around the eye. Talkative!

Habitat:

Seen in urban backyard around the buildings

Notes:

There are flocks of these lovebirds and you hear them go by, always loud and chirpy and so busy and fast when they stop in nearby big trees. This one however decided to stop and talk to himself in the window reflection, for hours and hours. He was not tame to get close to, but I suspect he may have been a pet at some time. Unfortunately these little birds are often caught and sold to tourists and expats on the roadside, but they are wild populations.
