Description:
Cushion-shaped or slightly flattened; largest approximately 2.5 to 3 cm wide; 2-4 cm high; dry; tan background covered with tubercles – shallow and fairly long (up to 1 mm) - whitish to brownish spines that protrude individually interspersed with aggregates of 3 to 4 spines. The surface resembles a gem-studded cushion. Puffballs have a fairly well-developed sterile base.
Habitat:
Cluster of puffballs growing in soil at the edge of a pine woods in a dry location.
